Thank you for signing up to run in a Pixel Perfect Online Event! This guide will get you set up to send your game footage and audio, and camera/vtube model (if being used) to the live stream. Please read these instructions carefully and complete your set-up well ahead of time.
For the marathon, you'll be using our own portable version of OBS that already has the necessary profiles, scenes and sources prepared - you'll just need to apply your game capture and camera/vtube feeds to it. To get started:
Download the zip file which will have been shared with you on Discord.
Extract the files to a suitable location. The extraction folder is password protected; the password will have been provided in Discord.
You can now delete the zipped folder.
Run the file 'OBS Start'. If Windows asks if you're sure you want to open the shortcut, click 'Yes'.
From the top menu, click on 'Profile' and you'll see that there are several profiles available. You should choose the profile from the list that most closely matches the game you're streaming and your maximum bitrate.
NVENC, AMD or x264?
If you have an NVIDIA graphics card you should select an 'NVENC' profile.
If you have an AMD graphics card you should select an 'AMD' profile.
If you have an Intel graphics card, or your CPU is significantly more powerful than your GPU, you should select an 'x264' profile.
Full HD games (1080p or higher)
Use the 1080p60 profiles if possible, if either your bitrate or your encoder cannot handle these settings drop to the highest settings that your internet/machine can handle.
1. 1080p60 8mbps
2. 1080p60 6mbps
HD-Ready / Retro games (720p or lower)
Use the 720p60 profiles if possible, if either your bitrate or your encoder cannot handle these settings drop to the highest settings that your internet/machine can handle.
1. 720p60 6mbps
2. 720p60 4.5mbps
720p30 2.5mbps
Only use this profile if absolutely necessary when your internet or machine cannot handle any of the higher bitrates/resolutions.
The only setting you'll need to change at some point is the Stream Server. Leave the service as "WHIP" and the Bearer Token blank. Your Tech Volunteer will supply you with the Server URL for your tech check and run at the right time.
The final step is to prepare your sources. To do this select the 'Source setup' scene, and edit the relevant source in the following folders to add the feed you need to capture.
Camera/Avatar/Vtuber
You should only use one source in this folder. Ensure your webcam or vtuber model is set to a 16:9 resolution, such as 1280x720 or 1920x1080. If you're using a green screen for your camera or vtuber model background, right-click on the source you've used, click 'Filters', and adjust the 'Chroma Keyer/Color Key' filter provided as necessary.
Game Capture 1
- Game Capture: if you're playing your game on your PC (including an emulator) use this source.
- Window Capture: only use this source if Game Capture does not work for your game.
- Capture Card: use this source if you're running on a console or external PC via a capture card.
Regardless of which source you use, audio will automatically be captured and you should see it in on of the sources on the Audio Mixer. You're welcome to hide any unused audio sources in the mixer.
Game Capture 2
You should only need to use a source in this folder if you are displaying more than one game feed (e.g. DS/3DS, multiple games at the same time). This capture can also be used if you have a secondary feed that is useful to display (e.g. tracker, bingo card, hand cam), though please talk to @Staff about this before your tech check. This capture is not to be used for controller input displays.
Assets
Do not touch this folder.
You do not need to set up your microphone or capture any Discord audio. All commentary is captured on our end through Discord. You do not need to adjust any audio levels unless instructed to by the tech team.
Each source you've used will show up in one-quarter of the scene. The example below shows the 'Camera' source and 'Game Capture' sources in Game Capture 1 & 2 being used to display a 3DS game. Note that there are no black borders around the edges of the feeds, but they don't take up the whole of the white space behind them.
If your game feed has some sort of border, i.e. you're seeing black around the edges instead of the white background, right-click on the source you set up, click 'Filters' and use the 'Crop' filter provided to crop each edge as necessary so that only the game is showing.
The 'Source setup' scene is only used during setup. During the event, you will stream the scene that matches your game's layout. Your game's feed should completely fill the space. If it doesn't, you'll need to go back and crop any borders as outlined before. You do not need to make any changes to the scene you are streaming.
If you are in a race, your feed will show up twice on the race layout (as shown below). Decide with your opponent who will be on the left and who will be on the right, and hide the folder in the source list for the side you won't be on.
